I know I have been throwing around hints that I am thinking of culling down the number of books that I now possess.
For those who enquired over the past two weeks, I know I have been real slow at replying, but knowing that it is time to let go and actually letting go are two different things.
With this phase, I have realised that letting go of men is easier than letting go of books.
I have a list ready finally, of books that I have decided to give away to anyone interested. Please indicate what you want in the comments section (even if you know me personally) so that the others know which books are taken.
There are just three conditions though:
1) You actually love books and are not just trying to impress people by trying to display them from your shining book cases. Obviously, I cannot measure this and can only hope you are asking for them because you want to read them.
2) The only costs you will bear will be the courier charges for transporting these books to you, but I do expect you to bear them.
3) There is a limit of 3 books per person, if however there is a book that no one else has asked for, then this will be sent to anyone else interested (just put in optionals under the 3 books you want).
The books will be strictly be distributed based on the first person who asks for a particular title. Please do not leave your contact details etc on the comments section, just the titles you want. I will get in touch with you through an email and get the details.
Right, the list now without further ado(not ordered by genre or anything, so please pick after seeing the entire list)
Update: Books crossed out have been already selected by others (which leaves just four remaining) and the second list will be up tomorrow evening.
- FreakonomicsΒ – Stephen J Levitt
- Five Courtier Poets ( a very old compilation of five poets from the English Renaissance and in a bit of a dismal state)
- Maximum City – Suketu Mehta
- The Argumentative Indian – Amartya Sen
- Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm – Kate Douglas
- Two Artemis Fowl books by Eoin Colfer(will add the titles soon)
- Right Ho Jeeves – P.G. Wodehouse (reserved for Sagaro unless he says he already has this)
- The Naughtiest Girl saves the day – Anne Digby
- Honour among thieves – Jeffrey Archer
- Playing for Pizza – John Grisham
- The Inscrutable Americans – Anurag Mathur
- The Cradle Will Fall – Mary Higgins Clark
- Tell me no lies – Elizabeth Lowell
- If tomorrow comesΒ – Sidney Sheldon
- Ivanhoe (unabridged) – Sir Walter Scott
- The Woman in White – Wilkie Collins
- Selected Poems of Longfellow (again a very battered old version)
- The Waitress – Melissa Nathan
- The Learning Curve – Melissa Nathan
- Shopoholic and Baby – Sophie Kinsella
- Shopoholic and Sister – Sophie Kinsella
- Shopoholic ties the knot – Sophie Kinsella
- Rupert of Hentzau – Anthony Hope
- Contest – Matthew Reilly
- (added) LOTR (3 in one) – J.R.R.Tolkien
- (added) The Golden Compass – Philip Pullman
This is 25 27 books in all and there are a few more that I am still debating over. I will leave this list here till next Sunday (15th of June) and will most probably add more to this list in two days (and the 3 books rule will not apply to those books, so no worries about choosing these).
If you think I am crazy to let go of some of these books, I agree with you completely.
But there are times when tough decisions have to be made and this was one of them.
P.S Please,whoever gets any of these, do give my babies a happy home.
The Argumentative Indian – Amartya Sen
Right Ho Jeeves – P.G. Wodehouse (Thanks for reserving :D)
The Inscrutable Americans – Anurag Mathur
Thank you!

Just curious – why do you want to cull? Storage issues or something else? And why these books specifically?
Never could get rid of books – even if they go back to my childhood. Still have them, will always have them. So just wondered what your reasons could be.

I will take all your books, thank you (though I suspect I have some of them). Just arrange for the shipping π
Rebecca of Sunnybrook farm! I remember reading it as a kid and loving it! Makes me think of brown cows and four leaved clover.
Btw, you are tagged.

@All who have asked for books,
Please give me a week’s time to organise and send it all across to you. Will send across my email id to you for details.
Rambler,
I would recommend the Anthony Hope, The Woman in White and Elizabeth Lowell, the remaining books may be better read by a woman π
Hmm
Maybe I should have just put the last date as today since there are only three books on the list left now! That was quick!
@Lekhni
Aah, tagged! So someone is spreading misery around again! π¦
As for sending across all the books, I would go bankrupt just sending it across to you. Maybe I should have added a warning – “Shipped only within India” π
I also loved Rebecca and so far no one has reserved it, so I have an excuse for keeping it back π
@Quirky Indian
While storage issues are the main concern for this, these books were the ones most gathering dust on my bookshelves since I have read them already a number of times. Rather than sentence them to negligence, I decided to give them to others who could enjoy them as much as I have.
@Amaresh and Hrish
Thank you for dropping in. Will send across the books sometime next week.
@Vikram
Dinner is fine as long as I get to choose the place π

Yes, it is tough to let go, but I have grown stronger (or so I would love to believe). If you are going to do this, do let us have the list π
